The topic I have decided to write about is racial inequality. I think this topic is extremely interesting because in our American society there has became a large gap in beliefs of what democracy and justice looks like, especially amid a pandemic. I think this is an interesting topic because the demographic of the United States is constantly changing but for some reason our habits remain the same. Similarly to how Antigone was written ages ago but still has relevancy today. There is so much to discuss in this topic in recent times. Recent Black Lives Matter protests, the election, and the xenophobia of the pandemic have all showed the countries color palette, and all the colors are shades of racial injustice.

Kayla,
Yes– there is certainly a lot to explore with this topic. Now the question is: what research question can you ask when delving into sources?
You mentioned racial inequality as it relates to the pandemic. What about looking at reasons why BIPOC communities are being hit the hardest by the virus. Or comparing the virus’s effect on BIPOC communities in cities vs. those in suburbs or in rural areas.
You could also look at racial injustice in the healthcare system in general. Where are there some glaring inequities, and what kinds of studies have been done to uncover this type of systemic racism?
If the above research questions don’t appeal to you, create one! The idea is to be specific and to give yourself a question to research that you do not know the answer to…
