In my opinion, education has may different purposes. Every individual has their own ideas of what they believe education to be. To me, education is a way to gain more knowledge about ones surrounding through discussions and exploration. In Plato’s ” Allegory of the cave” He states that he believes that life is like being chained up in a cave watching people live their daily lives in form of shadows. I believe that the people that were metaphorically chained up posed as the students, while the shadows posed as the teachers. Although the “students” may not have understood what the “teachers” were teaching them, they had no choice but to sit and watch and as a result of that, they eventually became accustomed to what they were seeing and when one of them was set free and was exposed to a different style of teaching, he was back to square one because he was once again lost and unused to the information that was being given to him. When he eventually learned what was being thought to him from the other perspective, he tried to inform his fellow students but was shunned by them. My point is that when people become accustomed to their own style of education, It sometimes proves difficult to tell them otherwise. They become so used to their norms that they often refuse to intake information in any other way that they do not find amussing or appealing. Pluto used a good metaphor to explain that idea to the audience, I also believe that his reasoning is correct.

Ekeoma,
This is a wonderful response. It’s very insightful– especially the section where you talk about how students “become so used to their norms that they often refuse to intake information in any other way that they do not find amusing or appealing.”
This is such an important point & something we will be discussing a lot in this class.
Nice work.
