What is the endoplasmic Reticulum?
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) is a network of membranes within the Cytoplasm of a eukaryotic
cell continuous with the nuclear membrane. It usually has ribosomes attached and is involved in protein
and lipids synthesis. There are two regions to the ER known as the Rough ER and the smooth ER.
What is the difference between amylose and amylase?
In biology lab try not to get confuse with these two words, because of their identical spelling.
Amylose is an unbranched polymer, and is the soluble form of starch. Amylase is a starch breaking
hydrolysis or a digestive enzyme that helps break down starch into simple sugars like glucose.
(Differentiate between polymers and enzymes in the extended answer)
What is the major difference in mitosis and meiosis?
Mitosis is a process of cell duplication, or reproduction, when one cell gives rise to two genetically identical daughter cells. Meiosis, on the other hand, is a division of a germ cell involving two fissions of the nucleus and giving rise to four gametes, or sex cells, each possessing half the number of chromosomes of the original cell.
What is the difference between amylose and amylase?
In biology lab try not to get confuse with these two words, because of their identical spelling.
Amylose is an unbranched polymer (a large molecule made up of smaller molecules called monomers) and is the soluble form of starch.
Amylase is a starch breaking hydrolysis or a digestive enzyme that helps break down starch into simple sugars like glucose. Digestive enzymes are enzymes that catalyze the break down of polymer macromolecules (larger molecules) usually food into their smaller building blocks, in order to make absorption easier.
