    • Web portfolio: not behance or deviantart (or similar) but a website that you control and design.
    • PDF: it must be smaller than 10mb and must be designed, not a loose collection
    • Traditional physical portfolio: printed on high quality paper and assemble professionally as in a portfolio case or book.

Additional Requirements

What to include in your portfolio:
Photography, photo retouching, illustration, original cartoons, comics, character
design, patterns, information design (charts/maps/graphs) are encouraged. Fine art, 3D work, proof of project management and production knowledge (project briefs, storyboards, 2D mechanicals) and sketch book work is acceptable.

*Older design pieces from past classes can be revised to reflect each student’s
present level of creative thinking and technical expertise.

Composed pages must be printed in hi-res pdf, NOT jpeg. Also, most portfolio websites support HD images, for viewing on 4 and 5K screens, so default to high resolution at all times. Website images should be hi res jpgs. Website templates will tell you the maximum size to upload.

Make the portfolio you want to make to get the job you really want.
But if you don’t make the work, you won’t get the job.

Grading

Resume Set and personal branding: 25%
This should include a well-designed resumé (inDesign only. Not word or any online generator), business card, “about me” statement, and cover letter/intro email (to be able to send to potential employers). Optional pieces include a promotional piece, leave-behind, and more.

Portfolio: 50%
Each student should have a portfolio website, an emailable (10mb or less) PDF portfolio, and an optional physical portfolio. A physical portfolio is dependent on your work. Your social media can also be included as supporting your more substantial website/pdf/etc. Social media is not required but will be discussed.

Attendance, research, participation, and presentation skills: 25%
You will be expected to research jobs, companies, and individual professionals you aspire to work for and with. This is an ongoing part of the class and should be a part of your career for the rest of your life.
