Being an online student can be intimidating, confusing, and just plain difficult!

So for these first few days, you get to share your concerns with other students. Maybe give each other some advice or just a good old bit of support. Believe me — online instructors have many of the same worries you do, even if we’ve been teaching online for a while.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  1. PLAY with our OpenLab Course website.  Click around on all the menus and dropdown menus. See what’s there! This is kind of like our classroom for the semester, so make yourself familiar with the “room” and the “closets” and “shelves” where we are storing things. (If you read and followed the WELCOME post, you probably can just skip to step 2.)
  2. WRITE: a new post (here is info on how to Post. You can also just click the “+” sign at the top of the OpenLab menu as a shortcut : ))
  •       Start with one word that describes how you’re feeling about this course as we get started. No need to explain, but you can if you want to.
  •       Then: Tell us a bit about how your summer went, your worries, concerns…anything you feel about being an online student… whatever you want, No censoring… And
  •       Add a picture that means something to you, and explain why you chose it — why does it mean something to you? It can be anything. (If you need help on how to Upload a photo, check this OpenLab Help link.)

Post using the Category called “INTRO”

  1. Comment: Wait a while. Check back in and see what other people are saying, and reply (here’s a link for how to leave a COMMENT) to at least 2 other people’s posts or comments. It’s nice to know we’re not alone! Hey, don’t just repeat what a lot of other people are saying. Try to be as personal and specific as you can. Your classmates will appreciate it. btw: if you are having too much trouble on commenting, please just ask me during Zoom class, and I will walk you through how to do it.
