In the second photograph, I see three women probably around the age of twenty five. They all seem to be of a high middle class status based on the hats, which look very expensive and complicated in design, with all the bows and accesories added to them. Also, the way they are dressed, the long black skirts, button down shirts and ties, make me think that they are either in school on a lunch break or three girls eating after church. The area where they are enjoying a picnic at, seems to be very quiet and clean. Judging from the fact that they’re leaves on the ground,I would say that the season is fall. Finally, this is a photograph that shows three women from the 1900s enjoying a picnic in a suburban part of Brooklyn.
In the description of the first photo, it seems like the department was selling items or materials to their customers on line. It looks like a grand opening because of the huge line, i can’t tell if it were clothing materials like fabric due to the black and white picture. Although it bares a significant history behind this picture, probably took place in certain events. Maybe that time, workers were only paid in minimum wage. I notice the clothing and fabric by the logo “upholstery trimmings”. This photograph was taken in a Brooklyn department store known as A.I namm & sons department store. Which took place in the year 1898.
In the second photograph, there are three women, enjoying a picnic by a lake in a park. They seem to be having a great time, enjoying each others company because of the facial structures. They are seated on the ground, on top of or near a blanket with food leftovers on top. They are dressed in uniform type of clothing because all three of them are wearing the same clothing: long skirt, a big tie and white shirt with a very fancy hat, so I infer that these young women attend a strict school of the upper middle class, since they have clean fancy clothes. Looking at the surroundings, there are many, many leaves on the ground, so this tells us that this picture was taken in the midst of Autumn. The water looks very calm so the weather must be a tad warmer then usual considering the season and also the fact that the young women aren’t wearing anything heavier than a long sleeved button down shirt.
In the picture there are three young women. Based on their attire I would say they are high or high middle class. I observe that there were leaves on the ground so I will guess the season is early fall. These women have on hats so they might have just came from church since hats were proper church attire for women during that time period. They all have similar features so they might be siblings and their mother might be the photographer. They are eating sandwiches so it also might be lunch time. Based on their facial expressions they were not expecting to be photographed. Also based on their facial expressions I’m guessing the photographer might have said something amusing so the women in the middle was smirking. The lady on the left was responding to the joke and the girl on the right was looking at the girl on the left’s response to the joke. Over all the picture gives off a relaxed and joyous tone.

The first photo setting takes place inside a department store where they sell cloth materials, as can be read at the top such as “Embroidery materials’ and also “upholstery trimmings”. In the early 1900s it was a common practice that women held jobs in sewing which is evident as you can see there are only women present in this photo setting. Also you can observe a wide variety of materials but you can’t really tell what all of it is because the lack of color in the picture. Furthermore in the second picture you can observe 3 upper class females having a picnic by what seems to be a lake. The picture is dated to be 1899 which leads one to believe they are upper class females because at the time it was a luxury to take pictures not a common commodity available to all.
In the second photograph, I see three young women. Their attire gives off a sense of regality, or at the very least, they are part of the high class in their society. They seem to be very comfortable in their environment, from which I can assume they frequent. They are sitting, enjoying a meal, which I take to mean that these three young women are close. The young women most have shared a joke or just came from the onset of a joyful experience as they all seem to be happy as shown by all three smiling.
In the first photograph we see a posed picture of women inside a department store. We can tell it is posed by the position of the women all in one area and having their attention towards the camera. They are all wearing similar clothing as was the fashion at the time, which is dated 1898. Therefore this kind of department store of embroidery materials and upholstery trimmings was essential to their needs in the upkeep of clothing. The women on the right behind the counter seem to be the employees, and the ones on the left are the customers. There is one woman all the way to the left sitting down in what seems to be the service or waiting area with her back turned. The first woman on the left seemed to be ready to make her purchase as she has an item in her hand. This might have been a portrait used for the advertising of the company; A.I. Namm & Sons Department Store. We can see all these standards of marketing and advertising such as big signs and display counters practiced today.
In the second photograph we can see 3 ladies which appear to be having a picnic. they appear to be sitting by a lake and enjoying their lunch. they are all covered up. reason being that this photograph was taken many years ago. this photograph was taken in 1899 in california to be exact. they all are wearing similar clothing. the hats are all the same and old fashioned. you would not see anyone today wearing those hats. they are all wearing ties and are dressed warm for chilly weather. the leaves on the ground indicate this photo was taken in the season of fall. these ladies were also probably wealthy because of their clothing. I believe that this photo was taken by a professional because of how good it looks for the year it was taken in.
In the second picture I see three young women. They seem to be enjoying a beautiful day out. It gives a sense of not to waste a day. The way they are dressed shows that they are not from our time. Another feeling it gives off a bit of a conservative feeling to the women’s life style. The women are smiling by a lake or pound enjoying a lunch of some sort. By their attire they seem to be of high class maybe middle class even. The leaves on the ground show that the time of year may be are mid fall. The lady in the middle seems to be the youngest out of the three. They could be sisters or even friends it is hard to tell in this picture.
In the second photograph, I see 3 middle aged woman or possibly teenagers enjoying a picnic in the woods enjoying themselves. This picture is obviously from the 1950’s or so based on the way they are dressed. They aren’t showing any skin and are wearing these hats with feathers in it. They just seem to be happy and enjoying life with no worries. Maybe their family or something.
The second picture shows three women enjoying a picnic in what seems to be the fall time of the year due to the fallen leaves. The clothing that is worn really signifies the social level of these ladies, to be wearing such formal clothing to a picnic. The ability to capture this picture is also magnificent for the ladies to accomplish since the complexity and rarity made cameras very expensive at the time to be used, and that even having a picture being taken should signify something. From the image you can also infer that they know each other well and it might not be their first time picnicking at that spot. The ladies can actually be linked to the first picture due to how the first is a clothing shop and the three women wore good threads; heck, even the women presented could might as well be them.
The Second picture captures 3 ladies having a picnic during the late 1890’s. This was a time when fashion was changinging. In the past tigh fitting bodices and bustiers were worn to make the body look smaller and appeal more to the males. During this time women started to wear clothing that was more tailored and clothes that were considered sportswear like tennis dresses. Even their hair and headdresses make it seem like a time af peacefulness. The picture seems effortless as if the didnt have a care or problem in the world.
In the following photograph, you notice three young ladies having a picnic. They all seem like their relaxing and just having a good time. Telling jokes and being humorous can be depicted from the big smile on lady on the left. This is taking place during the late 1890’s from the date located on the caption. You can also tell by the picture’s quality as well as the clothing their wearing.
