This semester, we will work collaboratively in ENG 1121. To get to know each other better, please add a comment (here’s some help if you need to learn how to add a comment) to this post introducing yourself to the class. You could include your academic interests, why you chose your major and what your focus will be, what you enjoy reading, listening to, watching, and doing in your spare time, what you like to cook or eat, what the furthest away you’ve ever traveled, where you like to spend time, or anything else you want to share, include your pronouns, if you wish. Your introduction can include images or links as well as approximately 150 words (that’s a goal, not a requirement).

Remember that you do not need to use your real name in this comment–if you are signed in, your display name will be autogenerated as the author of the comment, so no need to add it.

Also, remember that even if you don’t have an OpenLab account, you can still complete this assignment because you can still add a comment! If you haven’t been able to sign up for an account, you can still do this work by adding your comment and filling in the Name and Email fields–the name you use will show publicly, so feel free to just use your initials; your email address will only display for the course instructor.

Before we meet in person on Tuesday, 1/31, please add your introduction.

Get to know your classmates by reading the comments!  Do you have something in common? Did you learn something? Reply to any of your classmates’ comments.

  1. Biana

    Hello everyone

My name is Biana, but I prefer to be addressed as Nana. My pronouns are she and she. I’m the youngest of seven children. My daily activities include reading in my peaceful room, being alone, and playing some K-pop music in the background to make it more vibrant. This is my first year of college. I like to read fantasy, romantic fiction, comic books, manga, watch anime, Korean dramas, and crime films, and make art. I spend my free time sleeping or cooking Haitian food, which I enjoy. I prefer to stay at home instead of going anywhere. I’m a reserved person who dislikes conversation

Welcome to ENG 1121, Nana! I’m sure as your classmates add their introductions, you’ll all start to find common interests.

Do you want to say anything about your avatar–does it come from a favorite manga? how do you feel it represents you?

I’m looking forward to getting to know you and your writing better throughout the semester!

  2. Michelle

Hi my name is Michelle , some of my academic interests would be science although this is my first year taking a science course i find it very interesting already and hope to learn a lot from that class . Currently i still have not chosen a major because i do not know in what direction I’m heading for , for now its just undeclared health science which I’m okay with because Im not rushing into a career i will regret later on . My main focus this semester is school and making sure i pass all my courses and hand in my work on time .

Welcome, Michelle! I admire your goals–to pass your courses and finish your work on time–and I’m happy to help you accomplish them this semester. What science classes are you taking? I was a science major in college (and an English major, too), but not in the health sciences field. It’s great to take some of your classes as you decide which path in the health fields you want to take.

Anyone else in the health sciences in our class? I hope you can share experiences!

  3. ISISXD

(Repost because I wasn’t signed in and don’t know if it went through)

What’s up, my name is Isis. I’m gender-fluid so my pronouns are she/he (her/him). I want to transfer to a SUNY next semester so I’m taking classes to get credits for pre-dental whilst being a LAS major. My biggest reason for wanting to transfer is to be surrounded by nature. I’ve always felt at peace in fields where I take pictures of clouds and trees. My favorite aspect of my pictures are the luminous sun glares; They look like portals I wish I could jump through sometimes. Anyway, I’ve always enjoyed writing so English is my favorite class! Even though it’s academic writing, I like to speak in my voice so I’m excited to see what we do. I’m looking for friends so don’t be swayed away by my mean mug, haha!

Welcome Isis! Ah, another health sciences student–are you and Michelle in any classes together?

Nature is such an important factor for mood and emotions. I can imagine it can help you stay calmer as you study, feel happier, get energized. Do you have any favorite places to experience nature in NYC? There are some parks near City Tech, but do you ever head down to the nearby waterfront? I love to walk down to the Promenade, but to really experience nature, I’d take the time to walk down to the water. The park below the Manhattan Bridge, all the different parts of Brooklyn Bridge Park, all worth exploring. I also like walking in and taking photos of the nature that surrounds us.

PS–Thanks for reposting your comment as a logged-in member. I approved this one and can trash the other one.

    Hi,

My name is Gabby, I am a health science major. I chose this major to become a cosmetic/aesthetic nurse when I graduate. My focus this semester is to stay on track and not fall behind in my classes, do all my work and study hard. My interests are listening to music (a variety of genres) mostly reggaeton or rnb. I like watching shows but haven’t been able to catch up on anything in a while. I like reading poetry sometimes. I like cooking a lot, I try to cook for my family every weekend. I usually make something we don’t usually eat every day like pasta or steak. In my spare time, I go to the gym or clean my house. I like to travel, the farthest I’ve been was San Fransisco. One thing about English for me is that I actually like to write if it’s something I’d want to write about. I am also looking for some friends in my classes 🙂

  5. Christopher Gonzalez

Hello, my name is Chris, my major is computer systems, I wish to earn a good paying job out of this tech degree. I love the biological sciences and spent a lot of my time growing up watching nature documentaries narrated by David Attenborough. He’s an iconic figure that I grew up watching on documentary series like Planet Earth and Blue Planet. My hobby is playing videogames and I really enjoy eating out with friends whenever I have the free time as it’s one of my favorite ways to socialize. I hope to get along with everyone this semester and wish everyone luck in passing all of their classes.

  6. Most Alam

Hi, my name is Most Alam, this is my second year at city tech and overall. My major is Mechanical Engineering Technology. This whole time I had trouble choosing a major because there are so many options. But I knew by heart that I wanted to become an engineer. My hobby is walking, well, now I barely get time for myself because I work 3 days a week and come to school 4 days a week. But whenever I have freetime I go out on a walk, that makes me feel like I found myself.
