  • Meeting Info: Each week, I will post an agenda that will outline the week’s work. It will include instructions for you and links to readings, discussion questions, and other work.  We will work on developing community both in our classroom and in our online written community.

  • To complete a draft of the Project 2 introductions
  • To continue Project 2 research
  • To draft citations and annotations for three sources
  • To revise our research questions as needed
  • To understand our Midsemester Grades

To Do Before Week 8

Just in case you haven’t already, please:

  • Brainstorm to find a research topic you are passionate about. Develop an open-ended question to research for this inquiry-based research (vs thesis-driven) research project.
  • Catch up on any readings or discussions you’ve missed following Project 1–you can review the Weekly Class Agendas to see what we covered. If you haven’t yet submited Project 1: Education Narrative and the cover letter (paper copy distributed in class), please reach out to me to discuss a plan. I cannot give you a passing midsemester grade if you have not submitted Project 1.

  • Checking in at Midsemester: How is it going? What’s working? What needs to change? What goals do you have for the second half of the semester? If this semester is like Plato’s cave, what cave are you emerging from, what is your light, and what are you doing with it?
  • What is your research question? Please submit it via comment in the Research Topic and Question discussion so that I can establish your working groups.
  • What belongs in the introduction to Project 2?
  • Search terms
    • try doing a google search and see what you get!
    • what new search terms can you find that will fine-tune your search to help you get better results?
  • What kinds of sources are we finding?
    • genres
    • quality
    • how do we know if we want to use a source?
  • Going back to the library
    • Monday, 10/28 at 12:00–so we will meet outside the library on the 4th floor
    • we’ll use our time to think about how we find and select sources, and have time to draft our next annotations, revise what we’ve written, and ask questions.

Friday, 10/25

Midsemester Grades: Grade options are P (passing); BL (borderline); U (unsatisfactory); or SA (Stopped Attending). If you are in ASAP, SEEK, or similar program, they will ask me for a more detailed progress report.

Project 1 responses: if you published your project on our site, please find my letter in response and grade as a comment on your project post.

If you have not submitted Project 1, your midsemester grade cannot be a P (passing) but will instead be a BL (borderline) or U (unsatisfactory). If you can get me your project before Friday, I can include that in your midsemester grade!

  • 12:00-1:40: in the Library! (meet at the 4th floor of the Library Building. We will work in the classroom, located within the library on the 5th floor.)
  • Library website
  • Databases: Pubmed; SpringerLink ejournals; Business Source Complete; Academic Search Complete; Gale Academic OneFile Select; for media: ArtSTOR, AVON; for video: Kanopy (for documentaries), SWANK (movies); NexisUni for news sources and more; New York Times Digital, New York Times Historical.
  • Visit the Reference Desk in the library for support with your research–someone is always on the reference desk when the library is open.
  • Use the Ask A Librarian for 24-7 support.
  • Work on getting your Reflective Annotated Bibliography in shape for peer review coming soon.
