  • Meeting Info: Each week, I will post an agenda that will outline the week’s work. It will include instructions for you and links to readings, discussion questions, and other work.  We will work on developing community both in our classroom and in our online written community.  

Objectives

  • To use mentor texts as guides to our chosen genres
  • To share drafts of Project 3
  • To catch up on any missing or late work, especially with the Final Portfolio in mind.
  • To schedule a time to talk with me for additional support
  • To complete a draft of Part 1 of Project 3 and begin to draft Part 2
  • To begin thinking about the Final Reflection and Portfolio

To Do Before Week 13

  • Submit Project 2 if you haven’t already. If you need help, please ask me or consult this Help page on Writing a Post.

To-Do This Week

Monday, 12/2

Texts:

  • Continue using mentor text(s) to help guide your approach to your chosen genre for Project 3

Writing:

  • Continue revising your new composition (Part 1) with the goal of having a completed draft of Part 1 done so you can begin working on Part 2 in our next class, on Wednesday, December 4.
  • Continue drafting Part 2 based on your draft of Part 1
  • Consider sharing your draft of Project 3 as a post on our OpenLab site to help your classmates see examples.

In Class:

  • What are the component parts of a listicle?
    • title, maybe subtitle; image; introduction; subheading for each point, maybe numbered; paragraph or two of information including links or references to your research; possibly an image for each; possibly a conclusion.
  • How can you transform what you learned in Project 2 into a listicle for Project 3?
  • Write your title and subheadings. Where does your research fit into each one? who is your audience and purpose?
  • Some creative ideas: a listicle zine; a listicle Canva slide
  • Share aloud with the class what you have so far for Part 1 for whole-class feedback
  • How do we do a rhetorical analysis for Part 2?
  • What else does Part 2 include
  • Drafting
  • Feedback:
    • if you need to do more research, do it!
    • if you need to imagine a group for your audience eg a student astronomy club, do that!
  • Sayback for whole-class feedback

Monday, 12/4

Texts:

  • Your drafts of parts 1 and 2

Writing:

  • Finish revising your new text (part 1)
  • Finish revising your genre analysis and reflection (part 2)
  • Remember: Project 3 due date for final version: Monday, December 9, 2024 (or close to that)

In Class:

  • Share your listicle with your partner
  • What do you notice about your partner’s listicle? what do they do that you want to do, too?
  • What could they add if they have time?
  • What is their audience? what would be a good venue to share the listicle with that audience?
  • Finalize Project 3
    • Project 3 part 1: creating a new text
    • Project 3 part 2: genre analysis and reflection
