I got the chance to work on an e-mail blast to send out to clients to inform them about the store fronts that are available for rent, along with other things. The e-mail blast will not only feature the stores but also the neighborhood around them, which might help persuade people into renting the space in a good neighborhood. I was provided with a template that Mdrn. uses for this and at first it was kind of hard to understand. When I think of e-mail blasts I think of the ones I get from retail stores like Macyās, Forever 21, Old Navy, etc. This template was 600 max widths and the height of it seemed so long, so when I started designing it, I didnāt really have too much time to brainstorm on where to put everything, so some sections were really tight and others were almost empty. I think I might have rearranged things like 10 times before Mr. Eyal showed me an easier way of doing things.
I couldnāt believe it but Mr. Eyal did what Prof. Nicolaou said to the class on the second week of class; he made things bigger. I completely forgot that a lot of companies, especially corporate ones, like things bigger.
This is a sample of an e-mail blast that was done previously.
I started to do just that and things started to create a balance and I was still able to fit in all the information. Again, I could not do anything too extravagant because their clients like things that are straight forward and easy to follow, and all the heavy decorating is not needed. I found it interesting that most of the projects that were given to me were to be done in Adobe Illustrator.
I asked Mr. Eyal why that is and he said that both Illustrator and Photoshop has the slice tool and sometimes some of the projects have elements that he may want to reuse or some specific parts that he wants to save separately and the slice tool makes it easy to do that. He then went on to give me a tutorial on how slicing is done in both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. For this project, due to time, Mr. Eyal decided that he will launch the e-mail blast on his own because the company uses a program called MailChimp and he did not have enough time to give me a tutorial on how to use it. That day I went home and gave myself a little tutorial so I could be ready for next week.
