Most of you know me but those that don’t my name is Irina. My pronouns are she/they. I’m quiet around people who I don’t really know but get more outgoing the more I get to know people. I came upon Math Education because I had gotten a job tutoring math (remedial-calc 2 and stats). I didn’t realize that I would get consistent results. I didn’t know how good it would feel to see a student finally understand material they have struggled with who knows how long. After I graduate I plan to get a masters in Special Education and relearn my French and Japanese. My main hobby is martial arts currently praticing a japanese weapons style called Naginata. I hope to improve and progress through the ranks more maybe take up a second style. My favorite animal is an otter I think they are extremely adorable and can brighten up a day.

OTTERS ARE SO AWESOME!!! I love that they can use rocks as tools to crack into their favorite shellfish treats. AND THE BABIES ARE SOOOOO FLUFFY!!
I love that you mentioned how good it feels to help a student understand material they’ve been struggling with. That feeling can be a super powerful motivator for a teacher! Have you ever taught martial arts? There must be similarities with teaching math, right?
I love that about them as well and no usually that happens in the higher ranks. I’m still very low in terms of rank it’s only been a year so far. The process of learning the movements is similar to learning how to write proofs. You have your basic defintions or movements and you are putting that information into a specific format which is then added to and polished.
