Test #1 will be given in class next week on Thursday, October 12 (Tuesday follows a Monday schedule). In this assignment, we crowd source test review problems and solutions.

Part 1 – group assignment – practice test

Due Friday, October 6

As a group, come up with your own practice test. You can look at the workbook, textbook, and WeBWorK for inspiration for your questions.

Requirements

  • Your test should have 10 questions.
  • Your test should cover all the topics we have seen so far in class.
  • Include some questions that require knowledge of vocabulary.
  • Include one word problem.
  • Your test should include some questions that group members agree are difficult (not all easy questions).

You may like to write your practice test questions (no solutions) by hand, the secretary can then post a photo of the hand-written question sheet. Post title: Group n Practice Test #1 (where n is your group number), category: Week 6 group post.

Part 2 – individual assignment – practice test solutions

After the groups have posted their test questions, each student will give themselves a practice test.

  1. Choose one of the group’s practice tests (it can be your own group’s).
  2. Set a timer for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
  3. Start the timer and take the practice test as if it were a real test. You may use a calculator (but not the calculator on your phone). Try to avoid distractions during this time.
  4. Show all your work, including all numerical calculations. If you are not sure how to solve a problem, you may work through the 6-point problem-solving framework for partial credit.
  5. Stop writing when the timer goes off.
  6. Post your full solutions on the OpenLab; title Test #1 Review – Group n (where n is the group whose test you took), category: Test #1 Review.

Taking this test will help you figure out which topics you need to review or practice more before Test #1. After you have posted your own test, take a look at your classmates’ to see how they answered the same (or similar) questions. Tip: take as many practice tests as you can!
