The New Fine Art – Part 3 of 3

Sweets! Candy! what do you think of cake sprinkles and marshmallows? For most of us we think of something edible like candy, or pastries but for Michelle Wibowo, she used it in a different way. She used half a billion sprinkles, 10000 marshmallows to recreate “The Creation of Adam” by an Italian artist Michelangelo and she called it the “The Baking of Adam.” The art work was 5.7 meters wide by 2.8 meters tall and took 168 hours to complete. She created this for the 450th anniversary of Michelangelo’s death.

The New Fine Art – Part 2 of 3

Color pencils! How do we use color pencils? It is mostly used as a coloring or drawing tool but in this case it is a whole different story!
This drawing or… um… a collage i should say, is made with the use of color pencils. LITERALLY! The whole pencil, with the wood and everything!  This collage was created for the Faber-Castell campaign by Ogilvy & Mather Singapore, the color pencils were use to recreate the painting “The Scream” by Edvard Munch and “Terrace Cafe at Night” by Vincent Van Gogh.

MoMA Review

http://www.newyorkpalace.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/moma-logo.gif

The Museum of Modern Art is located in midtown Manhattan, New York City, at 11 West Fifty-third Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues. Since it is a modern art museum it ranges from many different styles. For example expressionism, dada, surrealism, photography, cubism, minimalism, and many other types of works. I liked how this museum has a vast variety of art works  made by different artists that had worked on the same style. Although it is the same style, they are all created different differently. I also liked that it is free for most college students and free on Friday evenings.  I recommend this place to any one that is interested in art in general because not every art piece is created on a canvases and some sculptures are created with every day objects that we see.

Narrative: New York City

New York City! “One of the best cities to live in!” – Said the people that do not live in New York. Despite the cruel and heartless people, the crowded streets and public transportation, and finally the ever changing weather (which is mostly cold weather), NYC is filled with art. Art is everywhere in this city ranging from the streets to the subway station, there are always something interesting that catches the eye. For example graffiti that can be seen at almost everywhere in NYC, the architecture of Grand Central Station, the mozaics that can be seen in the subway stations, the sculptures that can be see around the city, the religious murals that are on the ceiling of churches, and etc. Living in this city gave me a chance to observe and learn the different types of art that can be viewed in this city. There are more opportunities in NYC because of the art works that are being shown only in the museums in NYC. For example the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the MoMA, and etc. Even though there are more opportunities to learn there are also a lot of competition because there are always someone doing something that is similar to you. Therefore you have to challenge your self in order to stay on top.

Food Art

en-tw-metaksy-stin-iapwnia-91

Food art is changing the placement or shape of  the food on ones serving container to make the food or cuisine more appealing or appetizing. Food art can be different in various places of the world. For example some cuisines uses a large white plate as their display platform and puts their little bit of food in there. Although there is a little bit of food, it is still decorated with different sauces, textures, herbs, fruits, and uses the eye catching colors of vegetables to make it look elegant.

In the image above is a picture of a bento.  A bento is usually a home made meal common in Japanese cuisine. Traditional bentos usually holds ride, meat, fish, and vegetables, in a box shaped container. In this bento a piece of lettuces was put on the interior of the container so that the food wont stick the bottom. Then the pieces of meat and cherry tomatoes were put near the interior edges of the box. The rice is shaped into the body of a cartoon character, Pikachu from the show called pokemon. The minor details for example the face, ears, and the flowers were made from nori (the japanese name for the edible sea weed or for those of you that don’t know, its the dark green paper looking thing that is on sushi) and kamaboko (japanese fish cakes).

Introduction – The New Fine Art part 1 of 3

20130521-222711

In these series we will be viewing famous fine art work that have been recreated using the unusual or uncommon art mediums. I will be giving a description on how the art work have been made.

Coffee. What do you all think when you see a cup of coffee? For most people it will probably be just a drink to wake them up in the morning but not for Karen Eland, she has a COMPLETELY different idea when it comes to coffee! Karen had an idea while she was in coffee shop ten years ago, switching from painting with watercolor to painting with a cup of espresso. She found it amusing to recreated old paintings as coffee painting while using shades of brown. Also in her recreations she adds in a coffee cup. For example here is a painting of the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper.

What I Spend Money On

In reply to Chris Brogans Blog Topics I chose the topic “What I spend my money on.” I spend my money on random things but mostly food and plants. Everytime I go somewhere with my friends, we will always try something new. So what is food? Food is something that is consumed to provide the body nutrition for daily routines and it is usually from animals or plants.

I would try any new types of food, if I like it I’ll try it again next time, but if I don’t I wont eat it again because I will remember why it is unappitizing to me. Trying new foods may even expand your view on life. Some cuisines may look appitizing may not tast as expected, while some may appear unappitizing  and may tast great. So never say that you don’t like something if you have never tried it because some things are not always as it seems. Also never base whether you like it or not on one thing you have tried from the whole cuisines because you may not like a couple of dishes but there may be other dishes or even another resturant that you may not have tried yet that my still appeal to you.

I like to buy plants because plants come in various shapes, colors, and may have certain functions. Plants gives off a calming feeling, helps purify the air around you, produce oxygen and the color green is good for your eyes to stare at. Most plants come in different sizes, foliage shapes, varigated foliage patterns, and my have vibrant flowers. My favorite plants are plants that look unusual, for example carnivorous plants because I personally hate insects with a passion! Therefore, these plants can be used as a natural pest control. There are different carnivorous plants too, there are the venus fly trap plant, the sundew plant, and the pitcher plant. These plants each have a different function to catch their prey, the venus fly trap plant uses the snap trap function, the sundew use the sticky function (it basically looks like fly paper), and the pitcher plant uses the pitfall trap function.

Spark of Inspiration Misson Statement

The mission of The Spark of Inspiration is to inspire people of the use of unusual or uncommon objects that are used to create unique art works. I chose this name for my blog because a spark is all a person needs to ignite their imagination, therefore they can create many different art works.

This blog will show readers visual images and descriptions about the different creative works that can created from the use of different mediums. Art work is not based on only using the mediums that we see in our everyday lives. For example pencil, pen, paint, marker, color pencils, etc. This blog will show viewers unique ways for creating art works that is not limited to those items. I hope this blog will bring people to realization about the different art works we can use to create an art piece.
