Recognizing Professionals Paving the Way For Non Traditional Students in STEM

PPA-STEM Leaders-PSTR

Jessica Plaza-Mendez is a Hispanic female Mechanical Engineer at Navair where she conducts flight testing for military helicopters.

Jessica is a University of Puerto Rico alumnus and was the President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (A.S.M.E.) Student Chapter during her senior year in college. She completed summer internships and COOPs at Sara Lee and Abbot Laboratories. Jessica worked for a GE Aviation sub-contractor company as a repair engineer after graduating college and has worked for Navair for the past 9 years as a Flight Test Engineer. She translates engineering test requirements into test plans, and analyzes test data to evaluate system effectiveness. Jessica has received several awards/recognitions (Captain Award and Test Team Quarter Award) from the Program Manager AIR (PMA) for her flight testing work and recently graduated from the Navair Journeymen Leadership Development Program (JLDP).

Jessica enjoys baking, running, and volunteering at events targeted to motivate female students to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers.
