Jeffrey Hernandez, LeGuin Critique

In “The Wife’s Story” by Ursula K. Leguin is written as a third person point of view. The liked the way the author wrote this story. For example, at the beginning of the story they have address him as “he was a good husband, a good father. I don’t understand it. I don’t believe in it. I don’t believed that it happened. I saw it happen but it isn’t true.” At the last sentence of this quote it shows suspense. They use several keys, to make it sound more interesting. Which it totally does.

Not only that but around the last part of the story we could see that there are some characters in the story. Like the man, my sister, mother, we can see even that it’s third-person view it can have more than two persons. But, I really enjoyed how LeGuin try to express feelings in sentences. A great way of expressing emotions.

I can agree with you, the third person gave us somewhat of a foreshadowing effect since the wife was telling the story after it already happened. I like that you also thought there was a lot of suspense in the writing, it really kept me on the edge of my seat after finding out the husband’s secret and seeing the wife’s reaction.

The way Le Guin captures the feelings of the characters is interesting, as the sentiments come off as very human, but at the same time somewhat off, only for the twist to be that the characters are wolves.

I agree, the way the author personified the characters making them very human like when they were not.
