Rakib Hassan, Jones’ Critique

After reading “The First Day” by Edward P. Jones’, I enjoyed the way the writer details their experiences. The way Jones describes every detail as to what the character’s wearing to remember her fathers fragrance made the reading enjoyable. This lively aspect in Jones’ writing helped imagine how this character felt. Almost as to how I felt on my first day of school. The only question I have for Edward P. Jones is whether this character is real or just fictional.

I also noticed how descriptive the narrator was. The details paint a clear picture for the reader, it’s like we are right beside the girl on her journey to school. By the end of the story I too was thinking back to one of my first days of school.

I agree with Rakib because this short fiction also reminds me of my first day in boarding school, his detailed description of people’s thoughts, actions, and language put us right into his imaginary world.
