After reading Le Guin’s critique I have gained a strong liking towards the third person format that was used to portray the story. I really enjoyed the switch that occurred from the beginning of the story to the end of the story. While I did get somewhat of an eerie feeling at the beginning of the story it really starts to show in terms of eerieness at the end of the story. This story gave me a horror story type of vibe, where it’s a small log cabin in the woods and no one else is around for miles. I feel like the third-person aspect really added to that creepy aura that Le Guin’s story was letting off. I also really enjoyed the twist, as instead of a werewolf, it was more of a were human giving the story a distinct difference from other horror stories that can somewhat feel very copy and paste. Overall I think that the Third person aspect added to the story really gave it a more spooky and thrilling edge compared to if it was written in the third person.

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!

The story very much does come across like a horror story, in the very classic way (fear of the unknown, werewolves), until the twist. The reveal makes the story almost humorous to me, in spite of its still dark and tragic ending.
I agree with you that the third person gave this story more of a horror feel, I was in suspense the entire time. At the end the reverse werewolf was an interesting turn of events. It was a fresh take on the overused cliché of man transforms into a wolf.
I strongly agree with Eamon Bolger, the way LeGuin changes attitudes from the beginning throughout the end. Not only that but LeGuin, shows moods over the story, from exciting to dark.
