I grew up hearing about the culture of wolves and their similarities with human evolutionary tribal mentality. But it honestly took me a while as I was reading through Le Guin’s piece that the story surrounds characters that are not human but actually werewolves which made me chuckle a bit. When she talked about her husband transformation and endeavors in the woods and her sister licking herself it gave it off to me that the weren’t human. I would suggest the writer start this work a little differently while keeping the element of surprise to intrigue the readers like myself that the characters are werewolves. I would only point out that fact during an intense part of the plot like the climax which be revealing and not giving off in order to avoid confusing the reader progressively.
