Gurba’s piece was interesting for me, because I liked how it switched languages from English to Spanish which I didn’t expect. The dynamic between Spanish and English is something I have never read before so it was something new to me. I enjoyed reading Gurba’s writing about Cummins novel, because she was writing about the stereotypical things that Mexicans go through. I liked how Gurba was expressing her opinions about the novel and that she was being very precise about how she feels about it. I also liked how Gurba was criticizing Cummins work very well and in depth. Gurba addressed a lot of things she didn’t like about what Cummins had to say about Mexicans, which was also interesting. This shows that she’s speaking up and being supportive to her people and not just ignore what was being said. Overall, I liked how Gurba had the courage to speak up about what she had believed in and reading Spanglish was nice.
