With Gurba’s reading, it was something that I rarely see in readings that are given to me to respond to. The Spanish and English dynamic makes for an interesting description of text from start to finish. Gurba isn’t afraid to express herself and says how she feels when discussing the work of the author Jeanine Cummins. She’s pretty much stereotyping Mexican people and linking them into other Spanish individuals by using the term “Latinx”. It’s good that Gerba called her out on that. If that’s how someone sells books to the public by being misinformed on Mexicans then she should be called out on it by peers. Overall I thought it was a unique read. It’s still a bit of controversial discussion when mentioning both the United States and Mexico, especially over the past seven or so years.
