Antigone did in fact engage in civil disobedience. The definition of civil disobedience is the refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest. Her brother died and she buried him even though Creon did not want it to be that way. She did technically engage in civil disobedience by not listening to Creon and burying her brother. Creon the king of Thebes said to not bury Antigones brother however Antigone disobeys him anyway and still does so because he is strong-willed. While Antigone feels he is in the right unfortunately the law and word of the king says otherwise.

Class Meetings & Times: in person Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30 – 3:45 PM in Namm 523A
Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12 – 1:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance via email. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!
