Quote 1: “Fellow-citizens! there is no matter in respect to which, the people of the North have allowed themselves to be so ruinously imposed upon, as that of the pro-slavery character of the Constitution.”

Paraphrase: You people should not allow yourselves to put in place by pro-slavery people.

This helps Fredrick Douglass convey his argument by pushing the people he is talking to with the people who are pro-slavery which is something that his group would obviously be against so making them make side with him more as a sign to be against slavery and the inhumanity that slavery has which would appeal to their emotions.

Quote 2: “I hold that every American citizen has a right to form an opinion of the constitution, and to propagate that opinion, and to use all honorable means to make his opinion the prevailing one.”

Paraphrase: Every American should have a voice and be heard.

What Fredrick Douglass is arguing here is the idea the people who are patriotic and believe what is said in the constitution should be against slavery as having a man like him who is a citizen and the people under slavery who are not allowed to have a voice because of their skin or because of their position is un-American and being pro-slavery in all forms is being essentially anti-American.
