I think Wolfstonecraft’s DC is for women’s rights issues. She is fighting for women to be able to have an education. Wolfstone is speaking to lawmakers to persuade them that women are as capable as men are. The intended audience for this speech can be to both men and women. One strategy that she uses in her speech is by asking rhetorical questions. Wollstonecraft is a part of her discourse community because she is a woman. However she is more privileged than some because she is educated.
Stella Young’s DC is society itself. She doesn’t like being rewarded just because of her disability. Her intended audience is towards the media and people that perpetuate the idea of celebrating doing the bare minimum. One way that she succeeds in her speech is by using personal anecdotes and humor. Young does not seem to be a part of her discourse community. She does not accept the rhetoric that being born disabled is an achievement. She wants her community to question the praise that they get from mainstream media and culture because to her they are backhanded.
