In the speech by Fredrick Douglass I believe he is trying to make a point to the whites that slavery is no good. fredrick Douglass uses key word and important facts in his speech trying to convince the white people that they should discontinue slavery.back in the day African Americans where mistreated beaten up getting killed by white people. fredrick Douglass uses July 4th as a very tuff and dangerous day for an African American in the United States cause its not there freedom being celebrated its only white people who have freedom

quote 1 “For the present, it is enough to affirm the equal manhood of the negro race. Is it not astonishing that, while we are ploughing, planting and reaping, using all kinds of mechanical tools, erecting houses, constructing bridges.”

paraphrase

being an African American you had to do every thing that was told to them back in the days and not having no respect and freedom even after all the work they have done

explain

this helps fredrick Douglass argument because he states that the African Americans are the one constructing bridges planting and erecting houses so they should have there freedom after everything that happened

quote 2

“I see the bleeding footsteps; I hear the doleful wail of fettered humanity, on the way to the slave- markets, where the victims are to be sold like horsessheep, and swine, knocked off to the highest bidder.”

paraphrase

he sees the pain his people were going through and African Americans are humans to so they need to be treated as humans

explain

this helps his argument because it shows everyone how African Americans are humans so stop treating them like they aren’t and how much pain they been through
