Sadly enough, the conclusion of my research can be summarized with the old adage “the rich get richer while the poor stay poor.” The discourse community that needs to know about this topic includes all employees, but working-class people in particular. Although we are not taught about them at school, labor activists fought and died for many of the benefits we take for granted today. If it wasn’t for the Labor Movement, we would not have weekends, lunch breaks or paid time off. Instead we would have 12-hour days and zero liability for workplace accidents. It is now up to the current generation to take up that mantle and close the wealth gap through collective action. And I believe my presentation can both inform and motivate people to join the movement.
