Wollstonecraft is addressing the letter to the former Bishop of Autun in response to his pamphlet on National Education. The purpose of her letter is to urger the Bishop to reconsider his thoughts on women’s rights and national education. One of the claims Wollstonecraft makes is that they should work on improving the morals of the citizens by teaching men to respect modesty in women and to also be modest themselves. She believes that women deserve respect. I can identify myself as a part of this community because I am a woman who undergoes many problems because of the flaws of society. Our society oppressed women and finds fault in our every action. One of the problems I have to go through for being a woman is that my father is against my education. However, I want to get a good education and become successful.
Young talks about her discourse community as a disabled person. She talks about her struggles as a disabled person. She uses an example of her being bullied as a teacher. During the TED talk, she talks about not being there to inspire the audience. She claims that disability is not a bad thing and living with it doesn’t make someone exceptional. The claims that disabled people are sed for the benefit of the nondisabled people. She said that she is comfortable with her body and she has learned to use it at its best capacity. She wants to see a world where disability is a normal thing, not where disabled people are objectified. I cannot relate to Young’s discourse community because I am not physically disabled.
