1. First and foremost, the creators of Antigone in Ferguson wanted to attract people from all walks of life because they wanted the play to start a discussion, and this discussion should include everyone. They also wanted people who would not ordinarily attend a theater production to see how deeply rooted the problem is, as well as how universally condemned the perpetrators are.
  2. Although Michael Brown was far from the first victim of a police shooting, his death sparked outrage that understandably alienated the police. I think the creators of Antigone in Ferguson felt tensions were high enough and believed the community needs reconciliation with the police to heal.
  3. My opinion of the original play is unchanged. What struck me was that even in ancient times – when slavery, public executions, etc. were legal – this was enough to base an epic tragedy on. How could we be allowing it to happen 4000 years later?
