For my topic i have chosen depression and social isolation

In my research I have seen the rapid rising of depression, social isolation, and neuroticism among especially wealthier first world nations. This might seem like a confusing situation considering these richer countries where people have most of their needs met are somehow experiencing much higher rates of depression than much poorer and even war torn countries. this can somewhat be tied to the fact that people in wealthier countries might be much more isolated due to factors like work culture, atomization seen in cities, and the breakup of the wider family structure that was present in the past. We must come to understand what main factors are causing this namely aspects such as social media, social isolation, hyper individualism, and ineffective treatment for people who are suffering. This will also pick upon the effect that medications might be playing on affected individuals, and if they are being handed out with much less discretion than they should be, and if they would be an effective solution.

  1. how much social isolation does the general population suffer? and what groups might be the most effected?
  2. what aspects can we see that might cause these wealthier nations to be more depressed than far poorer nations?
  3. what programs could we put in place to help these people who are suffering?
