A specific moment in “How to Read Like a Writer” by Mike Bunn that I found useful was the analogy of imagery and description and theme and symbols. Mike Bunn was trying to explain a strong sense of place and atmosphere in the text, look for vivid descriptions and sensory elements, “”You’re not going to just read a text. You’re going to read a text within a certain context, a set of circumstances . . . It’s one kind of writing or another, designed for one audience and purpose or another”and also examine recurrent themes and symbols in the text and think about how they relate to the plot meaning underlining the the importance of each section and summarizing that part by part in order to figure out the main idea of the book,“ …Students-mentioned by every single one of them–was to mark up the text, make comments in the margins, and write yourself notes and summaries both during and after reading.” I believe this would be useful for me because it would help improve my reading experience, strengthen emotional bonds, support world-building and character development, and advance the writer’s overall artistry.
