Gay, Ross. “ Throwing Children”  April 26, 2023, https://poets.org/poem/throwing-children

Summary: “Throwing Children” by Ross Gay is a prose poetry, or perhaps an essayist, but let’s just call it that—describing a lovely walk with his pals and his long-practiced ability of hurling a small child into the air. You are aware of how pleasant it is to hear a child yell with excitement and how fortunate one feels to join in

Effective Sentence: “It is really something when a kid who has a hard time becomes a kid who’s having a good time in no small part thanks to you,” I think this sentence or phrase is effective because it says a lot. Meaning the sentence is effective because it combines emotional resonance, personal connection, contrast, gratitude, positive tone, realism, and a narrative element to create a compelling message about the positive impact one person can have on a child’s life.
