The genre that I picked is the open letter genre. The overall piece length depends on exactly what’s being written and commented about by the writer. Imagery can be used, but most of the time, it is not, however, metaphor and similes are used. The point of view is the piece written in present tense most of the time and in the first person point of view, there is just one person talking. The purpose is to commentate and emphasize a point, to make a clear message in a consistent manner. Open letters are usually in newspapers, and press releases, and also are in other publications.

“The Soviet decision has dramatized a moment of opportunity for a new level of
world leadership. That moment ends when we test our first bomb.”

I choose this quote, because it’s a really impactful end sentence that ties off the letter. It summarizes the point the writer is trying to make, and is a nice closing statement.
