The thing that they have in common is tone and genre. All 3 similarly talk about a personal experience, something anecdotal, but do so in a formal tone. They discuss hard events and difficulty truths, but use them to elaborate on certain topics. A way of using personal experiences to discuss difficult topics, and discuss them with humanity and realism. This is mostly done in a way to educate. In Malcom X’s and Fredrick Douglass’s piece it is used to educate the reader on a large scale political topic. and with Anita Jiang’s piece (though no the best word) educates on her personal connection to art history and analysis.
