In Mike Bunn’s, “How to Read Like a Writer”, Bunn discusses the importance of understanding the choices writers make and the influence it has on the reader. In his words, “All writing consists of a series of choices”(72). Bunn is trying to convey that each word written builds up to a greater whole in order to convey a certain idea or emotion. This statement stuck with me since I’ve never considered reading from that perspective and understanding why the writer decided to use specific words as opposed to others. Reading in this perspective as well as questioning each choice the writer makes in sentences will greatly improve my understanding and ability to analyze the text and I see myself using this method.
