One of the techniques from “how to read like a writer” that i think could be especially important to use is context consideration. as Bunn said in his essay about what his students claimed was one of the most important techniques

“One of the things that several students mentioned to do first, be-
fore you even start reading, is to consider the context surrounding both
the assignment and the text you’re reading.”

I think this is especially interesting when considering the way media and news outlets have begun to work and present their content since 2016. I’m sure it has always happened but it just seems to be much more overt and egregious now. however sometimes it is still interesting or even useful to read things from outlets that you know are inherently biased, but understanding that they are biased, and understanding the intended audience can give whatever you are reading much more meaning(and i mean this almost entirely about political news).
