In Mike Bunn’s incisive essay “How To Read Like a Writer,” he underlines the importance of looking at a writer’s choices in particular sections, which struck a chord with me in particular. Bunn mentioned, “When we read like writers we understand and participate in the writing. We see the choices the writer has made, and we see how the writer has coped with the consequences of those choices . . .” Because it switches the emphasis from passive consumption to active involvement with the text, this approach appeals to me. Analyzing a writer’s methods allows us to comprehend the complex art of narrative better. This method not only deepens our understanding of the artistry of writing, but also equips us readers to write more carefully and judiciously in the future. I avidly embrace Bunn’s advice to dissect a writer’s decisions in order to expand my own literary perspective because it facilitates a more deep and critical reading experience.
