The pieces made by Malcolm X, Douglass and Jiang were distinctly about 3 different scenarios. Although they were about 3 different scenarios and situations they all are categorized under the same topic: Educative narratives. This is because in all these pieces it describes a way in which all three authors learned. For example, in Jiangs piece,” The Memory of My Grandmother”, She is reminiscing about when her grandma made her question the way the Mona Lisa was made when she states, “The initial cognition of aesthetics is always started by asking questions with intuition, and then coming back to the work again and again with curiosity”. This quote signifies the how the questions her grandma made her think of were essential in her future profession, which we learn later on is having to do with art. Another example would be Fredrick Douglass’s piece ,”The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass”. In chapter 7 he is talking about how he used to reads books secretly, like the “Columbian Orator”, and how it furthered his decision making. He states,” The more I read, the more I was led to abhor and detest my enslavers. I could regard them in no other light than a band of successful robbers, who had left their homes, and gone to Africa, and stolen us from our homes, and in a strange land
reduced us to slavery”. This means that he was able to further base his views on his enslavers with the knowledge he acquired from them in the form of books. All the writers learned from different sources, books, debates and family members.
