ā€œThe Allegory of the Caveā€ is a story with an extraordinary amount of symbolism in it using everything from the shadows to the fire to the sun and the light that admits from it light. However, the story uses all these things as smaller pieces to a bigger picture, that of which being how our society is compared to how we see it. What we are seeing is how we see the world vs how it is and when we see the world for what it is instead of what we imagine it for, it hurts us when we see this reality and we refuse to see it due to our ignorance. In the text we are in a cave because it is isolated from the outside world which does not allow us to see what is truly on the outside. Our only knowledge of the outside is the shadows we can see from the outside world. These shadows are disoriented and dark forms of things that exist, but we do not know that as we are stuck in this cave. The people stuck in this cave are the same people who have been isolated their whole life or those who have been ignorant to the world around them. These people would look like prisoners or people who would be chained as they are limited based on what they believe. What would be happening is that these people would try to get freedom at first however would give up easily when they see this way is the right way since they cannot do anything about it and when they would see the shadows they would just wonder and tell the next person.
