Summary

This article talks about one of the major concerns the world Is currently facing, the nursing shortage. Started to say nurses are a critical part of healthcare and make up the largest section of the health profession. World Health Statistics Report, there are approximately 29 million nurses and midwives globally. Then one million additional nurses will be needed by 2020. According to an article in the Nursing Times, The US Bureau of Labor Statistics Projects that more than 275,000 additional nurses are needed from 2020 to 2030. Continues to say the shortage is due to a lack of potential educators, high turnover, and inequitable workforce distribution. On the other hand, the aging of population also increases the need for health services. The population is surviving longer, also reporting on the disease processes that were once terminal are now survivable for long term. Nursing faculty are experiencing shortage too which make limitation on the nursing school and the overall on quality of the program and classes can decline. Nurse Burnout, as far for the new graduate, they may start working and they determine that it is too hard that is not what they expected then live the job. In other words, is Career and Family specially if they are young people remember most of them are female childbearing years consume to the shortage too. Also, violence in the workplace leads to a nursing shortage emotional and physical abuse, adding to an already stressful environment, such as the emergency department and psychiatric nurses are at a higher risk due to their patient population. In addition to staffing ratios, technology, and empowerment all contribute to the nursing shortage in some way.

Reflection

I agree with the source that I read so for, on the nursing shortage. The information behind the shortage is very crucial therefore lots of work need to be done such as potential of education there is numerous of them, aging of the population of what we call baby boom generation. The nursing association can do more to help. I think the problem can be worst before it gets better. By working in this type of environment made agree more for the things that I read in the article are truly specially when they mention violence in the work within the health care system. It is one of the main reasons that make people change their mind about selecting other career instead of nursing. The study conducted for that is interesting, as I go along with the project. Through my other source believe that I will discover more information such as the staffing for example where I work never adequate staff. If I can empower some of the organization which take care of these problem, I will also make my voice heard. There is more to be done for the sacrifice those nurses make for care and safety of others, it can be just word on paper.
