The story Allegory of the Cave is about how our experiences change how we view and understand the world. In the story, knowledge of the world is based on shadows. Plato wants us to understand that this understanding learned in the cave is a limited knowledge of life. Once we enter the light, we gain understanding that not everything is what we thought it is. It may be scary at first learning new things but once we get used to it, we see the beauty of learning. It is not until we return to those we left behind and try to teach them what we learned that we understand how blind we really are and how unable to change we can be.
