Based on what I learned from “How to Read Like a Writer,” a specific moment I found useful is that you need to understand other people’s perspectives to see why they structure their writing the way they do. For example, the text states, “You must look at a book the way a carpenter looks at a house someone else built, examining the details to see how it was made.” (Bunn, 2011, p.74). There are many techniques to strengthen your writing and straightforwardly present your claim; however, you want to see how it was formed and create it in a unique sense that is fitting for you. As a reader, I would like to ask myself, “Who is the audience?” and “What is the purpose or idea they are trying to make?” Reading as a writer can improve decision-making and writing itself. But it determines how you view and process those points in your writing.
