My name is Gabby and I have some knowledge of programming languages. My knowledge includes python, java, processing, ruby, lua, HTML (markup, really…), and CSS (same). This semester I am learning C++ and SQL. I am currently a sophomore.

I have two separate ideas for utilizing Arduino at the moment, the latter of which I lack enough experience at all in order to use.

The first idea is to synthesize generated tones using Arduino and the Emotiv headset. That is, by using the Emotiv headset and thinking of a musical note, have a speaker play the note with Arduino being the intermediary to translate the thought into the note.

In general, the process should include:

  1. Wear Emotiv headset
  2. Think of a musical note
  3. Arduino board wirelessly receives the information from the headset
  4. Arduino board translates information into a musical note
  5. Speaker turns the note into audible sound

My second idea is to create a clamshell dual-seashell-shaped cellphone using Arduino that utilizes some sort of mobile OS, Google Voice, some free text message service, along with wifi. The idea is that this cellphone is lightweight enough that it can also be worn as a necklace. The inside of the phone should have two screens, both touchscreens, with some sort of oscillator mechanism so that the screens will always be one display and one touchscreen depending on how the phone is being held. This would require two touchscreens that, depending on positioning, turns off the touch-ability on whichever is top. This, ideally, should work like a phone is supposed to.

  1. I like that first one. Maybe it could also be worked into a MIDI controller o.0

Maybe if you figure out how to get notes out of people’s heads, you can see if it’s possible to read sounds.

    Emotiv synthesizer!

It would be possible, but it would require a lot of testing… that I would be willing to do of course. I have to figure out first how passive thoughts are read versus focused one, then how passive versus focused listening to musical notes are read, and finally how the imagined notes are read – again, passive versus focused.

But I really do think it’s possible, just time consuming.

  2. Dude! Check out what I found: http://www.liquidware.com/shop it’s super expensive but it’s DIY android development!
