ENG1151 Fall 2023

Cui Zhang [Introduction]

Hello everyone, my name is Cui Zhang (first name is pronounced as Q). My pronouns are she/her. I am currently living in Flushing, Queens. I am an upper senior currently majoring in Communication Design and pursuing the advertising route. This is my final semester here at City Tech. I am finally graduating with my BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree, cheers. I have many hobbies. During my free time, I like to take pictures of the sky (if they’re pretty), I like to draw, play games, fold stars, and do many DIY art crafts such as painting, or even decorating things with either washi tape, stickers or fake whipped cream glue. I am also a huge fan of collecting Funko pops as well as other mini figures.

The picture below is by far one of the pictures that is extremely meaningful. As a child, I’ve always been fascinated and always liked taking photos of the skies. I realized that taking photographs of the skies, it’s like telling an incredible story using our own point of view and our own imagination. The photograph was taken and created back in 2019. On the left, was the photograph I took, and on the right my friend used her imagination to create beautiful art out of it. Many people have different views when they see the photograph. Some of my friends said, they either saw a dragon, lobster, birds, butterflies..etc.  There are no right or wrong answers in the photograph on the left. It’s all based on our own imagination and what we see.

    Hello Cui Zhang,

Your hobbies are interesting. I sometimes sit outside, look up at the sky, and admire it. I like looking for stars, which is rare in NYC because there are few you can see. I like how you mentioned that taking photos of the sky is “like telling a story using our imagination.” I like the photograph that you took. I see a horse standing up on two legs, and its other two legs are somewhat like throwing a punch. Well, kick since horses don’t have hands. I also admire your friend’s drawing. I would have never seen those images. It does show how everyone’s imagination is different.

    Hi Cui,

I am also in my final semester at City Tech and enjoy painting and doing DIY projects at home. I have never used fake whipped cream glue, but I’ll definitely check it out. The two photos you posted are very thought provoking. When l initially saw the photo on the left, I did not see anything. After looking at it a few times, I saw the outline of two birds drawn by your friend. It also appears to be a bird in between the two birds. It’s interesting how your friend was able to draw a full picture.
