Creating a Cupcake with shapes, inner glow, and drop shadows
Today, we will start with our lab. We will create a cupcake base.
Follow the directions given out in class.
• Continue to use Effect > Warp > Bulge as described in the notes.
• Make the frosting and use the shape builder tool or the pathfinder
to unite shapes.
• Create an inner glow to give the frosting a 3-dimensional look.
• Create sprinkles and a cherry on top.
Objectives
What you can expect to learn
- Lab 1 – Donut Project – Set up and duplicate base shapes. Use effects to create a rounded natural shape with a bulge effect.
- Add stokes that have been created with the pen to look like sprinkles. Duplicate them and rotate them for a natural look.
- Continue to create a background using the crop tool in the Pathfinder palette.
- Lab 2 – Live Mirror – Set up a file that reflects what you draw on one side of your artboard o to the other.
- Add stokes and shapes that have been created with the pen (or shape tools)

Critique
Each week we will review homework assignments from the previous class. Students will participate in reviewing material and offering suggestions for improvement for their cohort. This week we will review the Split the Grid techniques and designs.
Lab 11
Lab assignments are done during class time.
- Create a cupcake with all the details in the class notes.
Discussion:
Each week you will need to respond to two questions posted. This is a requirement for participation part of your grade.
Homework Due Next Class:
All work should be submitted by 5:00 p.m. the Wednesday before class.
Each file should be saved according to the following naming convention. i.e., 3711_11_LastName.ai.
- Follow the directions on the resource sheet given out in class.
