Each week you will need to respond to two questions posted. Your response should be a minimum of 150 words for both questions. You should also include at least one response to your fellow students. The responses are a requirement for participation part of your grade.
Question 01 –
Describe three items you have learned doing the Midterm Project.
Question 02 –
How will you remember what you have learned?
Question 1 –
Question 2 –
During the making of the Midterm Project, I used many new techniques to recreate a movie poster in Adobe Illustrator. One thing that I have learned from this process was how to use layers in conjunction with groups in a file to organize objects being created with the pen tool. Organizing and knowing how objects will overlap each other is very useful. Another thing I learned was how to use gradients in a way that gives a three dimensional appearance. This emphasizes shapes in contrast to flat backgrounds. A third thing I learned was using feathering and blurring to blend colors of shapes together. Overlaying colors helps to smooth edges and make color transitions more subtle.
These lessons are valuable to me because they allow me to be more efficient and expand my designing possibilities. Repeating these steps and continuing to practice within the program will help cement these techniques into my range of skills.
Question 01
The most important thing I learned was the importance of closing shapes. And almost everything in my poster was a closed shape. From clothes to shadows to other visuals.
Another thing I learned was how important effects like blurs and glows are. Particularly Gaussian blur and inner/outer glows.
And last but not least I learned how to be more precise with the outlines while creating my closed shapes. Perfectly lining them up to create seamless connections between the shapes was key.
Question 02
I will remember what I’ve learned by recreating other posters for practice and I’ll try to up the difficulty level with each one. I’ll also apply these techniques to other projects I am assigned to do in the future.
This project was more fun than I was expecting and I’m proud of my finished product, although there are some things I could’ve honestly spent more time on that would’ve made the project much better.
1) Using the pen tool was very fun playing around with. 2) using the pathfinder tool to combine the shapes I created with the pen tool . 3) creating layers that help me focus on separate parts on the design.
I will remember what I learned during the midterm project because I know for a fact that I will use these skills in my daily use of design. these skills that I learnt are more of a skill but a daily routine.
Question 01
By doing the mid-term project, I was able to learn many things that I didn’t know before. In the process I learned the function of different tools such as the pen to trace the shape of the drawing, the gradient or the glow effect to modify the light of a color and give a better effect, also the use of layers to be able to work better and easier in different parts of the drawing without affecting the rest.
Question 02
I am sure that everything I learned in this project will be useful for future work, so the best way to remember it is to practice it often and apply it in other tasks.
1- The three items I learned were first using the pen tool to make shapes. At first, I forgot how to make waves and bumps so at the time it was just lines but then I figured it out and it was easier. The next thing I learned was making layers and locking them and making them appear and disappear using the lock and eye. The last thing I learned was to use the eyedropper to copy a color to another shape.
2- I will remember what I learned by using it when I can by doing different projects and what I learned will be helpful forward. While learning things in this class I was able to use some things for other projects that helped a lot. So using what I learned on other projects will become helpful and will help me from taking longer.
Question 01
Working on this project taught me a lot about using Adobe Illustrator. First, I got better at using the pen tool, learning how to quickly draw and adjust shapes to make them look smooth and natural. Second, I learned why it’s important to close shapes—this helps with coloring and makes everything line up better, so the design looks more polished. Finally, I explored working with color in more interesting ways by trying effects like gradients and transparency, which helped me add depth and make the design stand out.
Question 02
To remember these skills, I’ll keep notes and a checklist with steps and tips from this project. I’ll also practice them in future projects for sure.
Yeah, closing shapes is one of the things I’ll remember most from this assignment as well. Almost everything in my poster was a closed shape.
During the midterm project I learnt how to use different layers, using effect which contained blur control, and I learnt how to use the line tool more efficiently and it was better using it for a large-scale project. I understood this more a previous class that I took, and it was good that I got to brainstorm it again.
I will remember this for a while because I can go over them over and over so that I don’t forget them. Even if I do I have folders that help me remember what I learnt.
During the midterm, I learned how to use different effects to make my image unique and stand out. These effects include the drop shadow, feather, and inner and outer glow. I also learned how to add various colors in different spots on a gradient using the freeform gradient. finally, I also learned that posters are much more complex than we think. Redrawing it shows how many components go into a finished piece.
I will remember what I have learned by trying to use these new tools in different projects and keep refining my skills so that they become muscle memory. I will also work on personal projects using these skills that I’ve learned in illustrator to make sure that I can always have them as a tool in my back pocket for any up coming projects I may have.
