From here you can adjust how far apart and how thick you want your dots or dashes to appear.

You can either click a color in the control panel, swatches panel, gradient panel, or a swatch library. Or you can double click the “Fill” box and select a color, or you can use the “Eyedropper” tool and use that to select the color you want to fill the shape.
Then you click on the “Stroke” box to get that one in front and use the same methods to apply whichever color you want to the stroke.

You can then further adjust the line by adjusting the width of the stroke, make the gaps or dashes longer or shorter, choose whether you want the dashes to maintain their size no matter what or if you want them to be automatically shortened or lengthened to meet at the corners.
Yes, the eyedropper tool is amazing and very easy to use if you already have a swatch of your colors in your work area or want to reuse an existing color.

When you want to fill a shape. You make a circle with the ellipse tool on the left panel in illustrator. After making the circle, you then go to the menu bar at the top. Look for the window tab and you then scroll down until you find swatches. You make sure that the fill and stroke in on the interior. The other one will be the stroke or the border outline. When your swatches menu is open on your screen. You click any color you want, and the color of the shape is change. If the shape was already there you click with the black arrow or selection tool you then click on the shape, then go to the swatches menu and click a color and it will change.
When making a dashed line in Illustrator you have to create a straight line. Keep the line selected you then go to the menu on the top. go for the window tab and scroll down until you find stroke. You then click on stroke. The stroke panel will open, you then click on dashed line. You then put in your own measurements and the dash line will be created.
I like how you gave a clear depiction of how to navigate to the color from the process of also making the shape. Definitely helped me as I tried it on illustrator alongside the directions.
