Brooklyn College interview
I was excited when I received a response from supervisor Isana, who is responsible for coordinating with the Brooklyn College Institutional Effectiveness internship. I accepted her interview and scheduled a time for the interview. The night before the interview, I became nervous. This was my first formal interview. I started practicing self-introduction and analyzing the types of questions she might ask in the interview based on the recruitment content. I was in a tense state all night, afraid of making some mistakes and missing out on my ideal internship.
On the morning of the interview, I entered the Zoom meeting two or three minutes early to wait. I hope to give Isana a good impression of being punctual. After the interview, Isana first introduced herself and then introduced the job responsibilities and job responsibilities of this internship. Isana is a very friendly and gentle person, which greatly alleviates my tense emotions. She said they want to recruit three graphic design and two video editing interns for this job. She asked me if I had any experience in video editing or video production. And my answer is that I have taken relevant courses before, but now I am not very familiar with them. After hearing my answer, she had some questions and asked me if I should be familiar with video editing because she remembered it was written in the skill on my resume. However, I am starting to feel confused because I remember there was no relevant content on my resume. It was when she reviewed my resume again that she realized she had confused Adobe Premiere and Adobe Lightroom, thinking they were all software for creating videos. And then, Isana said it’s okay to directly edit videos on TikTok, as video editing on TikTok is easy to learn and learn. When she finally asked me what question she had, I answered truthfully, that I didn’t have questions because you had already answered my question in the previous conversation. She is very happy because it means she didn’t miss anything.
During the interview, she helped me review my resume, cover letter, and portfolio and provided some suggestions to help me improve. First of all, there is the cover letter. She said that the overall cover letter is good, but there are some issues with the leading, so it would be better to widen it. Next is my resume, she pointed out another thing that neither Professor Tanya nor I noticed, which is that the portfolio link on my resume is connected to my email instead of my portfolio website. Then she has a suggestion as Professor Tanya said which is adding more graphic elements. Finally, there is the portfolio. Fortunately, the portfolio link was added when sending the internship application email. Otherwise, I might have missed the opportunity directly. Isana praised my portfolio for not having any issues and also praised my graphics for doing a great job.
