When you take a portrait there are a few key factors one should consider. In a portrait photo you should make sure the lighting establishes what kind of photo you want to shoot. Also one should consider the angle of the light and framing a person within the portrait. Board Light is when the light is shining on the subject showing the most features. Short lighting is when the light shines on features not seen and has a shadow on the part of the face mostly seen. The function of the main light is to highlight parts of the face and create shadows to make a high contrast photo.. In fill lights the function is to light the subject to eliminate any strong shadows showing less contrast. The function of a background light is to create a sense of depth in a photo to make the subject appear further in a photo. I didn’t really understand which elements of a portrait will make the most interesting photo without making the subject look very dramatic. Next class I would like to review ow to use the reflective light to eliminate shadows.
Broad and short light both refer to lighting a 3/4 view. Broad light lights the broad side of the head, the one with the visible ear. short light lights the side of the head with the features.
