I chose this image as our best one because of how dramatically the background changed the tone. To me, it was even more impressive than the change to black that the spotlight caused. The calm, blue gray background was such a stark difference from the white background that we had originally been using. By using the large diffused light coming from the right of the piece, the mood of the photograph changed into a more melancholy, almost reflective tone. Rather than have an intense white or black, the mid-tone gray lends the piece a quietness that almost fights against the movement of the flower stems and petals which is otherwise so lively. That, along with the bright pops of color from the flowers, is what caused this image to speak to me the most. I find that the blue-ish tone is also more adequate for the flowers because it complements the colors and lends it a more tropical, organic feeling than the stark black contrast of the other images in today’s photo shoot.

This is a lovely example of using low contrast or diffused lighting. Combined with the wilting flowers, it is a bit melancholy.
