I chose this image from today’s group shot because I find that it was very engaging. The angle of the shot was taken from a high angle view of the stool we were shooting turned upside down. We also decided to show deep space extending beyond the focal point, with the other details of the chair receding far into the distance. The bottom of the chair is in the lower third of the image. The lines of the image are also leading towards the subject. Another reason that this image was so appealing to me was the figure to ground relationship. The background of the image is all one darker gray tone, whereas the foreground of the image contains a high-contrast object. This makes it stand out dramatically in the shot. Finally, the close up of the stool leads to an abstracted image that makes it unclear what the actual subject looks like. By flipping the chair upside down and photographing from above, we created an interesting composition that draws the eye in.

This is beautifully stated. The composition does become abstract and very far from the stool that was photographed.

Be careful with the term deep space. In this case the distance between the foot of a stool and the seat is not very far. Deep space refers to a spatial relationship where objects are far apart, like down the street or across the room.
