Congratulations on a job well done! Below are the links to the group project presentations:

No synchronous class meeting Tuesday 5/11, Recording available

Please be advised that we will not meet at 8 am for class tomorrow (Tuesday, 5/11). I have recorded a video lecture for you to watch here.

I will be having office hours from 11 am – 12 pm as usual if you need to talk to me about homework or your project. I’m really looking forward to your presentations on Thursday! Please plan to have everyone in your group speak for a couple of minutes, you may want to each take a couple of slides to talk through. I’ll be setting up Google forms in advance so you can grade each other’s presentations.

Also, I am giving a lecture to our Modern Physics students on an Introduction to Quantum Computation on Tuesday 5/11 from 2:30 pm – 3:45 pm. You are all invited.

I hope some of you can join me, especially if you are interested in the future of computing. This is my area of research specialization.

Here is the abstract:

In 1965 Gordon Moore gave a law for the growth of computing power. His law states that computer power will double for constant cost roughly once every two years. The prediction is that this dream will come to an end soon, possibly during this decade, as quantum effects are beginning to interfere in the functioning of electronic devices as they are made smaller and smaller. Moving to a different paradigm can provide a solution. In 1982 Richard Feynman and Paul Benioff independently observed that a quantum system can perform a computation. In this talk we offer a basic introduction to quantum computation and its history. We will also explore how quantum computers offer an essential speed advantage over classical computers and discuss the types of problems quantum computers solve more quickly.

All the best,
Prof. Bonanome
